Just to see, we went over to the Lafayette Bakery, where baker Ted Kefalinos made his famous drunken Negro head cookies. (Howard Stern’s still talking about it, so soon the whole world will be placing mail orders.) The cookies were gone, and Kefalinos said his Obama inauguration offering was all a “mistake.” He added to his previous explanations a story about a black neighbor who’d told him about being called the other n-word, which she compared to the word “Negro,” which led the baker to think that was an acceptable variant. He seems a simple soul, as one would have to be to offer drunken Negro head cookies in Greenwich Village. We had a cream puff, which was pretty good. photo (cc) In2jazz.
