Marist Poll: Voters Want Bloomberg Out, Will Vote for Bloomberg

by

The latest Marist poll on the mayor’s race closely follows the last one: most New Yorkers think it’s time for a new mayor — 51 percent, up from 48 percent last time — but the overwhelming majority (73 percent) see no hope of it. Perhaps out of learned helplessness, the respondents give Bloomberg commanding leads over actual candidates Bill Thompson (51-33) and Tony Avella (53-29). In both match-ups, Bloomberg leads with every voter group except African-Americans and, in Thompson’s case, Democrats and liberals (though only by a single percentage point in both cases) and residents of the Bronx. Thompson’s best strategy will be to grab all the Bronx voters he can and drag them to the polls, and hope the rest of us will be too demoralized to vote.
