Sometimes, life really does imitate TV. Especially if you’re a fan of The Wire. For example, 43 people were arrested today in a crack ring bust in Far Rockaway, Queens. One of them was a 12-year-old girl, who was selling crack — yes: crack — for the drug ring.
Not that you couldn’t guess, but yeah, of course the New York Post had this first:
A 12-year-old girl today was busted for peddling crack and pot on a Queens street corner — one of 43 people nabbed as part of a massive drug ring, authorities said. The grade schooler, whose name was not released because of her age, sold the drugs to an undercover, officials said. “She does not look 12,” said NYPD Inspector Michael Bryan. “We were very shocked to find out” her age.
Just like we’ve now moved past point where the phrase “you throw like a 12 year-old girl” is not an acceptable way to refer to anyone but Johnny Damon, as there are 12-year-old girls who can pitch better than most grown men, we must now make exception for those who “sell crack like a 12-year-old girl,” too.
Granted, she might’ve been busted, but:
(A) The guys she dealt crack for were serious:
Authorities seized two Mercedes-Benzes, one BMW, $14,000 in cash, 11 pounds of marijuana and a quantity of crack in the raids.
and (B) Her parents reportedly had nothing to do with this (and presumably no idea).
Cops said the girl’s parents were not involved in the ring. They said they were still trying to figure out who roped her in.
Most of us can’t even get away with ditching second period, and it’s almost always the parents who make you do the extracurricular activities. This young lady took the initative! Also: Is 12 and was selling crack. Then again, how sturdy is your crack ring if you have to bring on 12-year-old girls? It’s not like there’s a shortage of willing employees or anything.
