Saraghina, the rambling, low-key Italian restaurant and pizzeria that opened in Bed-Stuy two years ago, is losing one of its owners. But on the plus side, the neighborhood is getting a new restaurant.
Diner’s Journal reports that Massimiliano Nanni is leaving to open Celestino, a Mediterranean bistro. Scheduled to open later this summer, it will be designed by Nanni’s wife, an artist who was also responsible for creating Saraghina’s distinctive look. The new place will reportedly feature deep-sea diving suits and lobster cages, and, you know, food.
Saraghina, meanwhile, will continue to be run by Edoardo Mantelli, the chef who endeared himself to Our Man Sietsema with his “perfect” brick-oven pizzas and spaghetti with fresh tomatoes and basil, which Sietsema declared the “best evocation” of the dish he’d eaten in 2009.
