And we thought yesterday’s video by Scientologists was jaw-dropping. This is getting ridiculous.
Thank you, Mark Bunker (a/k/a Wise Beard Man) for finding a copy of this inspirational video made by Scientologists at the Phoenix “org” who are in a big push to extract even more money from parishioners (who are already constantly hit up for more cash in a process known as “regging,” by registrars). In this case, it’s to raise money for the launch of a new “Ideal Org” in Phoenix, one of a wave of new buildings Scientology has been erecting for God knows what.
As we’ve pointed out in several recent posts, Scientology is on a building boom as its membership is dwindling. The Daily‘s Hunter Walker recently estimated that the church now has about 484 square feet of property for every member!
But even after Scientologists are pressed to pay for more and more expensive services, they’re being asked to dig even deeper to help finish new “Ideal Orgs” which are supposed to deliver Scientology’s “technology” even better than their old, not-so-ideal orgs. Or something.
Anyway, as with yesterday’s shiny happy film, we’d love to hear our commenters on what they think of this film. Would it convince you to fork over a few thousand simoleons?
UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the Phoenix org. I told the young man who answered the phone that I had seen the fundraising video and wanted to make sure — this is an effort to raise money for a new “Ideal Org” in Phoenix?
“Yeah, we’re about to buy the building.”
Where, I asked.
“Over on the east side.”
And why does Phoenix need a new org. Is the current one full or something?
“It’s what we’re doing now. So we can expand into the city more so people can know that we’re here.”
And how’s the fundraising going?
“It’s going great.”
