28TH STREET AND BROADWAY, 8:20 P.M.–Although over 200 of their compatriots were arrested while apparently following police instructions earlier this afternoon at Ground Zero, the 50 or so white-clad members of the War Resisters League and School of the Americas Watch who made it all the way here, to the planned die-in, were in good spirits. Men and women of all ages dressed in white, they sat or lay on the ground waiting to be taken away into police vans as their friends on the sidelines surrounded the scene and took pictures. The people next to me were talking to a lovely young woman, one of the arrestees, who was perhaps 20 feet away, on her cell phone. No one was chanting; one man was singing.
