Amelia Grey says that building a career online came with a level of judgment and social isolation she never expected, given that she grew up in a conservative Iranian household.
Now recognized for her viral content, bold image, and growing online audience, the Australian-based model and influencer built her platform after years of cultural pressure, financial struggle, and internal conflict.
After leaving behind traditional expectations and normal jobs, Amelia Grey turned social media and OnlyFans into a full-time career, but public attention surrounding her appearance, body modifications, and career choices created deep tension with her upbringing and community.
Amelia Grey Says Her Iranian Upbringing Made Her Online Career Difficult

Grey moved to Australia with her family at a young age after leaving Iran. Growing up between two completely different cultures created pressure early in life, especially inside a deeply religious and conservative environment where appearance, sexuality, and public image carried heavy social judgment.
“I grew up in a very conservative environment where there was a lot of shame around women’s bodies and sexuality,” Grey said. “Doing what I do now completely goes against everything I was raised around.”
Before social media changed her life, Grey worked regular jobs, including nursing and call center work, while attempting to follow the more traditional path her family expected. Despite trying to fit into that lifestyle, she always felt disconnected from it.
Creativity became one of the few things that felt natural growing up. Photography, writing, and visual content slowly pushed her toward social media, where she started building an audience online.
Viral Social Media Fame Changed Her Life
Grey’s career started accelerating after she underwent plastic surgery at 21 and began posting content more consistently across platforms like TikTok.
Several videos exploded online, with some reaching 50 million and 40 million views. Viral traction quickly transformed her online visibility and eventually turned content creation into a full-time career across platforms like TikTok and Instagram (@meliasothick).
“I had videos suddenly explode online, and my entire life changed,” Grey said. “I realized social media could actually become a real career.”
Over the last four years, she has built a large online audience while monetizing content across multiple platforms, including OnlyFans. Financial freedom became one of the biggest motivations behind continuing despite criticism and backlash.
“My family worked extremely hard growing up, and money was always stressful,” she explained. “A huge part of my motivation comes from wanting financial freedom and wanting to create a completely different life for myself and my family.”
Online success also created distance between herself and parts of her cultural and religious community. Public attention around her image and career choices became difficult to navigate, especially while dealing with traditional expectations surrounding women and sexuality.
Body Modifications and Cultural Judgment Became Part of Her Identity
Much of the public conversation surrounding Amelia online has focused on her appearance and body modifications, something that became another source of criticism due to conservative cultural attitudes.
“My body became a huge talking point because it’s very exaggerated and visible,” she said. “There’s already so much judgment around women’s bodies in conservative cultures, so adding surgery and online work on top of that made me an outcast in certain spaces.”
Grey also points to what she describes as a contradiction surrounding cosmetic surgery in Iranian culture. Iran has developed an international reputation for aesthetic procedures and cosmetic enhancements, yet conversations around female sexuality and self-expression often remain heavily judged socially.
Years of criticism eventually forced her to confront her own mindset and decide on the future she wanted for herself. Instead of constantly fighting public opinion, she focused on accepting the consequences of her choices.
“I realized I either needed to fully accept this path and the judgment that comes with it or walk away completely,” Grey said.
Amelia Grey Says Success Came After Accepting the Cost of Her Choices

One of the biggest personal changes came after she stopped taking criticism personally. Instead of chasing approval, Grey focused on building the kind of life she actually wanted.
Today, her long-term goal centers around financial freedom, early retirement, and helping her family escape the struggles she witnessed growing up.
“My dream is freedom,” she said. “I want to create a life where the people around me never have to struggle the way we did.”
Despite the controversy that often surrounds online creators and adult content platforms, Grey believes her story is ultimately about accepting yourself fully, even when people around you disagree with the choices you make.
After years of balancing cultural expectations, public scrutiny, and online fame, she no longer feels the need to apologize for building a life outside traditional norms.
