Duke loved those dames, all right—every bit as much as they continue to love him back. Brilliant trumpeter Wynton Marsalis will lead the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in The Ladies of Duke Ellington, a three-night tribute to the most romantic odes in the indispensable big-band leader’s songbook; count on “In a Sentimental Mood,” “Sophisticated Lady,” and other heart-flutterers. Joe Temperley, Lincoln Center saxophonist and former member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, guests on October 15 and October 17; he bookends Duke’s granddaughter, Mercedes Ellington, who cameos on October 16.
