‘Tis the season to be charitable, and the New York Yankees are once again sponsoring a holiday food drive on December 16 in which donors can receive two tickets to see the team play in 2011. Simply donate 30 pounds of non-perishable food items. Giving is great, but 30 pounds of food is the size of a small child! Still, here are some easy ways to rack up 30 pounds.

Unlike in past years, rice and water won’t be accepted (yeah, way to try and cheat the system with your 30-pound bag of rice), so you’ll have to stick to canned and bottled products. According to the nearest Whole Foods, these choices equal the required 30 pounds:

20 cans of applesauce at $60
8 bags of sugar at $44
30 cans of pumpkin at $75
30 cans of salsa at $135
11 bottles of maple syrup at $209
30 pounds of walnuts at $300

Now it’s up to you. Game voucher distribution is limited to the first 100,000 pounds of food collected on December 16 at Yankee Stadium’s Gate 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., near the corner of 164th Street and Jerome Avenue. An added bonus: Lugging 30 pounds of food will help kick start that New Year’s resolution of working out and getting toned.
