Started five years ago as a jokey
alternative to all the celebrity-filled mainstream comedy festivals, the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival has
become a major gathering for fans of the
local indie-comedy scene. It kicks off at the Bell House on Thursday night with “We
Appreciate Ourselves,” an anniversary
celebration that, according to the festival’s website, will feature “people live tweeting about outfits,” “a VIP-herring room,” and “recognizable celebrities walking around avoiding eye contact!” Comedians in the house for the kickoff include Todd Barry, Jon Glaser, John Mulaney, and, of course, Mr. Mirman himself. Friday includes a guest appearance by Sarah Silverman, Saturday is the all-ages show “Uh-Oh: Dangerous, Inappropriate Comedy for Teenagers,” and Sunday features a film program of “weird videos by comedians.”
