FOOT FETISH

by

When even your aunt in the country knows who Manolo Blahnik is (thanks to Sex and the City), you know that designer shoes have become a big deal. Now FIT presents a new exhibition fit for Imelda Marcos: Shoe Obsession, 150 beautiful (and often painful-looking) examples of contemporary footwear. You’ll see Christian Louboutin’s red “Pigalle” heels covered in dangerous spikes, Andreia Chaves’s dazzling “Invisible shoes” made from mirrors, and Nicholas Kirkwood’s tribute to Keith Haring—a green platform with one of Haring’s little red men as the heel. However, the highlight has to be Noritaka Tatehana’s “Lady Pointe shoes,” pink ballet slippers with an 18-inch-high base that Lady Gaga herself wore for a television performance. Can you say ouch?

Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 8. Continues through April 13, 2013
