Brian McGreevy’s Hemlock Grove has claimed its stake in the vampire-and-werewolves-go-to-high-school genre, this time within the verbally complex and no-sex-scene-too-necrophilic world of an adult Farrar, Straus, and Giroux publication. So it’s no wonder that Netflix is the ideal—maybe only—home for a show based on his sophisticated, gory novel. Eli Roth, who will direct the 13-episode series, assures us that the Pittsburgh-set drama will be more Twin Peaks than Twilight, but we reckon it will be more True Blood than anything else with Bill Skarsgård (Alexander’s baby bro) starring as one of the main characters. Tonight, McGreevy reads from the source material, with a musical performance by the New York–based Caveman.
