The pianist’s music boasts the kind drama that always pulls you deeper into the action, with tunes like “Somewhere Between Dreaming and Sleeping” allowing agitation and calm to coexist in a poetic way. I dig him with horns, but his work with drummer Tyshawn Sorey and bassist John Hébert is especially powerful. Here, there’s a poignant quake to their rumbling, and even when rhapsodic moments arrive, something fierce is in the air.
