Dr. Cube. American Beetle. Dusto Bunny. Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle. These names aren’t those of any wrestler you’re recognize from the professional wrestling on TV. Instead think of Godzilla battling Mothra or the Robot battling a Squid Monster in the Beastie Boys “Intergalactic” video and you’ll be closer to the mark. Those names belong to the heroes and the villains of the world of Kaiju Big Battel. Their stories are as soap-operatic as those seen on television, but watching the Kaiju warriors clash at La Boom in Queens on January 10, even without knowing the stories, was still a riot of absurdity.
