Honoring over 40 years of Les Blank‘s unique eye on “the lives and passions of American regional subcultures,” Film Forum presents a week long retrospective of his work. Predominantly known for his music documentaries, Blank is also known for his love of food—and women with a space between their two front teeth. Tonight opens with his newest project, All in This Tea (2007), which chronicles tea importer David Lee Hoffman’s journey into the far reaches of China to find the finest handmade tea. Also on the program is Gap-Toothed Women (1987), a sweet homage to gals with that dark lining, featuring model Lauren Hutton, among others. Last but not least we get to glorify (and actually smell!) the onion’s close relative in Garlic Is As Good As Ten Mothers (1980). Blank will introduce the screening and supervise the AROMAROUND! process of garlic wafting throughout the theater.
