LET’S GO CRAZY

by

More than a few artists at the peak of his or her career have starred in a semi-autobiographical film accompanied by a chart-topping soundtrack. The Beatles were exceptional in A Hard Day’s Night, as was Eminem in 8 Mile—though not everyone makes a graceful transition to the screen (see: 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ or Mariah Carey’s Glitter). Prince’s Purple Rain not only catapulted the oversexed musician to rock-god status, but the soundtrack—featuring hits “When Doves Cry,” “Purple Rain,” and “Let’s Go Crazy”—even earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. Tonight, at Celebrate Brooklyn, live disco orchestra Escort lead the Purple Rain Sing-Along, which will most certainly turn into a dance-a-thon. Wear lace or something ruffle-y, and you’ll feel like Prince (or, ladies, like Apollonia) in no time.
