Who doesn’t love the Beach Boys and the Beatles? No one to be trusted, and we’ll take that stance to the grave. Their genial psychedelic-pop moments still pay off in spades; they were certainly influential on the slightly geeky, fully fantastic troupe the Apples in Stereo. The Denver rockers released a slew of thoughtful lo-fi albums in the late ’90s/early ’00s, took a five-year hiatus, and returned to shock their fans with the bright, meandering, provocative New Magnetic Wonder (2007). This from guys who owned The Colbert Report “Green Screen Challenge” with the lovestruck ode “Stephen, Stephen” and dress up like spacemen apropos of nothing. Their Seaport Music bash will also feature members from the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and sounds properly epic—get thee to pop’s outer reaches, now.
