In this episode of the Voice‘s This Is Stand-Up series, we shadow New York–based stand-up comic Marina Franklin between comedy clubs on the Lower East Side and in midtown.
Because of its proximity to hotels and tourists, the Broadway Comedy Club (318 West 53rd Street) in midtown is, Franklin says, as close to a Middle American audience as a comic will get in New York, and she likes to try out material there.
“There was about ten years ago where I was asking the woman at the desk if I could [get] stage time, and now I’ve run in here like a veteran, so that is how you stay pretty grateful,” Franklin says.
Franklin just launched a new podcast called Friends Like Us that “features women of color with very different views of hot topics.”
