Slaughterhouse+Freeway+Pharoahe Monch

by

Eight years and change after Philadelphia Freeway earned the rapper born Leslie Edward Pridgen his first and last gold plaque, the former Roc-A-Fella associate—yup, that was him wildin’ out on Jay-Z’s “1-900-Hustler”—continues to ball with indomitable urgency, pouring mixtapes and one-offs into a world that’s lost interest in uber-emo, pushers-gotta-eat-too street rap. To stan for Freeway in 2012 is to acknowledge that success is a relative concept. His never-say-die spirit is almost as awesome as his neck-beard, and tonight he opens for Slaughterhouse at Bushwick’s new the Well.
