SONGS OF LOVE

by

While Bronx-born stars Prince Royce and Romeo Santos get most of the local bachata love, Dominican singers like Anthony Santos and Zacarías Ferreira remain as popular as ever. Beginning his career playing alongside Luis Vargas, the former went solo with 1991’s “Voy Pa’lla” and soon rose to the top of the pack, expanding the genre both rhythmically and lyrically, adding love songs to its once down-and-out songbook. The younger Ferreira, meanwhile, has picked up where Santos left off: His latest full-length, Quedate Conmigo, includes a strong mix of bachatas and merengues, but expect his set to go back to 2008’s more romantic El Amor Vencerá for tonight’s Valentine’s Day show.
