We can try to find comfort in our recycled totes and hi-tech water canteens, but DJ Spooky reminds us that we live in a scary world where liquefied ice caps could drown Manhattan. Commissioned for BAM’s Next Wave Festival, Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica delivers information through music as it puts a spotlight on the climate crisis. Part artist, part social critic, DJ Spooky built this multimedia performance piece around his sound recordings from the Arctic, evoking a groaning and suffering landscape. This is just the tip of the iceberg: DJ Spooky gets some help from the International Contemporary Ensemble as he spins his skillfully crafted triphop. While the electronic symphony unfolds, haunting videos of global warming explode on a projection screen, making us shake in our boots.
Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 2. Continues through Dec. 5, 2009
