THE AFTERLIFE

by

In Euripides’ play Alkestis, the title character makes the ultimate sacrifice when her husband, King Admetus, is summoned to the underworld and she takes his place so he may live. Wife and husband duo Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar, founders of Big Dance Theater and 2000 Obie Award recipients, bring the intensity of this haunting work to a circular stage in Supernatural Wife, an adaptation of the myth in a translation by the award-winning Canadian poet Anne Carson, with an instrumental piece by Pulitzer-winning composer David Lang. Through drama, music, dance, and live video we, too, become a part of the death procession.
