These folkies must be gearing up to be our future “classic rock” staples. Why else would they have a three-night stand at the Allman Brothers’ second home? After the Decemberists’ mid-decade ascendancy from the indie world to major label land, they’ve made unique use of it, (mock) battling Stephen Colbert on his show and supporting Obama’s campaign. Their rise has to do more with Colin Meloy’s histrionics than any gimmick, though; like the Arcade Fire, his ambitions warrant big venues. Yes, this group could conceivably survive for as long as Greg and family. With Wye Oak.
