The eleventh-annual Idiotarod, which “puts a satirical creative spin on the famous and totally unrelated dogsled race in Alaska” again took place on Saturday, January 24, just one of the strange & silly ways to spend January in New York. This one does not require its participants to take off their pants, though. The organizers write that “[i]nstead of dogs with sleds, Idiotarod NYC features costume-clad teams of people with elaborately themed shopping carts, and instead of the brutal landscape of the frozen tundra, the race takes place on the streets of New York City.” The “race” went through Brooklyn and ended with an awards ceremony and after-party at the Gowanus Ballroom.
