ULTIMATE BBQ

by

Like smoky BBQ, beer, and celebrity chefs? Then hop aboard the ferry to Meatopia (a/k/a Governors Island), a charity event and competition that’s redefining the summer BBQ. Grill masters from all over the city will put their best pig-foot forward in hopes of winning the “People’s Choice Award.” Robbie Richter of Fatty ’Cue will serve as pit-master, overseeing the event and keeping an eye out for tomfoolery, which includes (but is not limited to) using anything other than local meats. Chefs include Seamus Mullen (of Boqueria) and Joey Campanaro (of Little Owl) as well as chefs from Aureole, Hill Country, and countless others. Not to take the spotlight away from the meat, but as the highlight of Mayor Bloomberg’s “Good Beer Month,” Meatopia will be serving four varieties of Sixpoint Craft Ale, including a special-edition “Meatopia Brew.” A portion of the proceeds will go to the nonprofits Just Food and Slow Food NYC. Take the free ferry from Battery Maritime Building, 10 South Street.
