Weekend Special: Amazing Things I Ate in the Bay Area

A recent 10-day trip to San Francisco convinced me that, taken together, the California coastal strip from San Jose to Fort Bragg offers eating every bit as good as we have here in the NY metro area. The opportunities to enjoy sustainable seafood are profuse, and, with three growing seasons per year, the fruit and vegetables are often more luscious. A trip through the Anderson Valley during the peach and cherry season made me almost want to stay forever. Wineries and breweries are of the highest quality, and, at places like Tony’s Pizza Napoletana and Delfina Pizzeria, San Francisco seems to be finally getting its pizza act together. Cal-Mex cooking is an estimable cuisine in its own right, and the South Bay (a/k/a Silicon Valley) mounts more memorable Chinese restaurants than you can shake a chopstick at.
