When it comes to tampering with Mother Nature, some things are best left alone (just see our July 24 cover story, “The Monsanto Menace”). In Wallace Shawn’s play Grasses of a Thousand Colors, a self- obsessed doctor learns this lesson the hard way when his attempt to solve world hunger (by tweaking the metabolisms of animals so that they can “tolerate eating their own kind”) disastrously backfires. A Public Theater and Theatre for a New Audience co-production, the play makes its NY premiere with a cast that includes Shawn, Emily McDonnell, and Jennifer Tilly. The production is part of the Public’s The Wallace Shawn—André Gregory Project.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 7 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 10. Continues through Nov. 24, 2013
