We are the World

Striking a classic revolutionary pose, a way-out-and-proud marcher (far left) leads the Paris Pride parade. In Moscow (bottom), an embrace between two women crystallizes the new post-Communist freedom. And in India (left), the Villupuram Eunuch Festival demonstrates the many faces— and guises— of homosexuality. Where would these people be without Stonewall? Probably exactly where they are. But sometimes an event can trigger imminent changes. The riot that occurred in Greenwich Village 30 years ago was such a happening; the next one may well be in Calcutta, Tegucigalpa, or Beijing. You never know where the queer itch strikes, but rest assured it will.
