Spring Is/Was Here: Phoenix on Saturday Night Live

by

I must admit that the combination of Phoenix‘s unveiling of the rousing “Lisztomania” on SNL, coupled with Sunday’s comparatively lovely NYC weather situation, plus maybe baseball’s Opening Day last night/today, made me absurdly happy this weekend in a springtime-has-arrived sort of way. And though rainy murk has overtaken us, it’s apparently snowing in Ohio, and two MLB games are already postponed, the song remains the same: splendidly buoyant French pop inexplicably elevated to a national stage alongside Seth Rogan. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, out in May, has best-of-year potential if you go for that sort of thing — “1901,” still available as a free download from their site, is captured in live performance after the jump. Note the sweet rockin’-out band meeting near the end.
