Bobby Valentine Might Manage the Indians

Miss Bobby V? A lot of Mets fans do. The former Mets skipper was wrapped super tight; when asked if getting into the playoffs was fun, he said no, fun was skiing with his family; when he got thrown out of a game, he snuck back into the dugout wearing a fake mustache; he fought with the management. But he produced, and when he didn’t he looked like he was trying at least.

Jerry Manuel’s take-it-easy style may be better suited to the current, neurotic bunch in Flushing, but the Cleveland Indians are giving Valentine a serious look. Recently returned from a managing stint in Japan, he’s been working at ESPN — where he must be smiling at the fate of his old nemesis, Steve Phillips. Now Valentine is on a short list for the Cleveland job — it’s believed to be between him and former Nats manager Manny Acta — and will have his second interview for it tomorrow.

The Mets will be at Cleveland on June 15-17, 2010.

Update: He didn’t get the job.
