The USS New York, with eight tons of steel from the wreckage of the World Trade Center forged into its hull, pulled into New York this morning. The Navy amphibious transport dock ship left Avondale, Louisiana on October 13 and, after pausing for a 21-gun salute at the former WTC site, will dock at Pier 88, where she is to be commissioned on November 7. Citizens will have the opportunity to come aboard the USS New York at 12th Avenue and West 48th Street before she heads to her home port at Norfolk, Virginia on November 12. A schedule of visiting hours appears at the ship’s web site.
