*UPDATE 2: Since this post was published, the “journalist” who claimed Pacquiao quoted a Bible verse calling for the death of all things homosexual has come clean — he admits Pacquiao never said it. Get the details here.
*UPDATE* See our list of gay people who could beat the crap out of Pacquiao.
Lovable Filipino boxer/congressman Manny Pacquiao, it turns out, is a bit of a dick.
In response to President Barack Obama’s announcement that he’s now pro-gay marriage, Pacquiao says he doesn’t agree with the president’s position and that according to the Bible, homosexuals should be put to death.
In an interview with the National Conservative Examiner, Pacquiao quoted Leviticus 20:13, telling the publication that “if a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”
He went on to say that society needs to “put God’s word first.”
Pacquiao, apparently, missed church the day they explained the “Golden Rule.”
(We reached out to Pacquiao to give him a chance to explain his idiotic comments. He hasn’t gotten back to us yet. We’ll let you know if he does).
The boxer went on to say “God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other. It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old.”
Aside from being a boxer and congressman, the feisty Filipino also is a devout Roman Catholic, who recently talked about giving up boxing to focus on his religion. Considering how badly he seems to interpret the “good book,” maybe that’s not such a bad idea.
Again, Pacquiao’s camp didn’t immediately respond to our request for an explanation. We’ll let you know if he gets back to us.
