What’s your favorite drink to order when you go out?
What is it about this drink that you like so much?
It’s like a more refreshing version of the traditional negroni. A normal negroni is made with gin and this subs sparkling wine for gin, so I feel like I can have more than one of these even before dinner and still be OK to continue on with the night.
Has it always been your favorite? How long did it take you to find it? What was that process like?
A normal negroni used to be my favorite drink but because they are stronger, I prefer them more at night when I’m going out as opposed to before dinner when they are intended (as an aperitivo). But while I was studying abroad in Italy, I learned to love the sbagliato while hitting up aperitivo hours.
Any chance something might replace it down the line?
I’m really getting into tiki drinks, so I can see one of those taking over…
Could you name a few places around town that make your favorite drink?
What’s the recipe for those that want to make it at home?
1.5 ounces Campari
1.5 ounces red vermouth (I like carpano antica formula, contratto rosso or cocchi rosso)
Dry sparkling white wine
Orange wedge or wheel
In a large wine glass add ice and then sparkling wine. Then add Campari and red vermouth. Give one stir (so as not to stir out all the bubbles). Garnish with orange.
What’s your second favorite drink? Recipe?
Aperol spritz! We do a version at L’Apicio called the L’Apicio spritz. It’s basically a traditional Aperol spritz, but we infuse the Aperol with grapefruit and add a little vodka to the infusion.
2 ounces of grapefruit-infused aperol
.5 ounce soda water
1 ounce sparkling white wine
Rosemary sprig garnish
Combine all in a white-wine glass and garnish with rosemary.
