Best Nerd Hang

by

Nerds, hang with your kind at the Secret Science Club, Brooklyn’s long-running monthly event that features “mind-bending lectures,” “volatile experiments,” “chemical libations,” and “star-gazing sounds.” Curated by jazz singer Dorian Devins and authors Margaret Mittelbach and Michael Crewdson, the SSC is a clubhouse for fun-loving smarties who enjoy music and cocktails with their talk of particle accelerators. A recent evening at the Bell House featured Hod Lipson, director of the Creative Machines Lab at Columbia University, posing questions like “Can robots ultimately design and make other robots?” Another lecture saw primatologist and author Frans de Waal investigating animal cognition — including “tool-making crows.” Admission ranges from free to $20, a small price to pay for expanding your mind.
