The Village Voice went to the anti-Trump rally on Saturday, and asked some of the tens of thousands of protestors exactly why they’re marching.
Tamiris: "I hate the fact that Donald Trump won, and the majority voted for Hillary."
Krista & Michael: "Because we resist."
Olivia: "I'm a queer woman in America, and I'm angry."
Jess: "I don't believe in a president who's going to proliferate hate and bigotry."
Asha: "I'm against what Trump wants to do to Muslims."
Alex: "I trust in President Obama, and he says the Russians have had a hand in the elections."
Amy: "I'm marching on behalf of all Americans."
Kevin: "I'm not with the fascists, with the hatred, with the fucking racism."
Ben: "I'm actually on my way to my wedding, today. But first, I'm marching. For my son."
"This is just my way of processing the way that I'm feeling."
Ed: "I don't wanna go back to the 1940s."
Karen: "I believe strongly in the fundamental right of all Americans to be who they are."
"Because I don't believe in what's happened to our country."
Alex: "I feel personally insulted as a woman. I don't want to have to start snorting my birth control, to make it last longer."
Jeremy: "Because I don't agree with any presidency. I'm an anarchist."
Marni: "Today, I'm a political performance piece, against sexual assault."
Jules' mother, Audrey: "They elected a tyrant to the presidency, who jeopardizes her life."
Lila: "Because Trump is president and we don't believe in what he says."
Joey: "We own Abbie Hoffman's old headquarters, and want to follow in his footsteps."
Ifetayo: "To show the country is not as behind on the times as it seems."
Jahsent: "We live in an oppressive country. This hasn't been a democracy in decades."
Danielle: "Trump needs to know he needs to denounce the things he's said."
Oisin: "To protect all marginalized people, and all trans people."
Randi: "I'm very much against the xenophobic and hateful message the Republicans have been generating."
