Spanish tennis player Pedro Martinez recently announced that he will be joining the subscription-based platform OnlyFans, citing that he wants to bring fans closer to the action with his new account.
The ATP No. 52 player in the world said in a press release: “As the grass court season comes to a climax at Wimbledon, I can’t wait to show fans what it’s really like behind the scenes on the tour.”
If you decide to subscribe to the 28-year-old’s account, you will reportedly be able to see his training insights, travel diaries, match-day routines, and an unparalleled behind-the-scenes look at his life on (and off) the court.
Why did Martinez decide to join the platform that is primarily known for its adult rated content?
“Everyone I’ve spoken to in the tennis world who is on the platform loves it,” he explained. “It’s an incredible way to connect and engage with fans, showing a more personal side than what they see on other platforms.”
He’s been able to speak to many tennis pros who are on the platform, because there is an ever-growing group of them joining regularly. Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios was one of the earlier adopters, launching his page in 2023. Kyrgios has stayed active on the platform and was tapped to host a new series focused on pickleball that released on OnlyFans TV earlier this summer.
Kyrgios had this to say when he launched his account two years ago: “Launching an OnlyFans was a no-brainer. They are revolutionizing social media and I wanted to be a part of that. Athletes can no longer just show up on the court or the field, we have to show up online too.”
Kyrgios explained that he wanted “to create, produce, direct and own content,” adding, “That’s the future. I’ve been speaking to my fans directly for years and I know what they want to see.”
Other tennis pros followed in Kyrgios’s footsteps, including two French tennis players. Chloe Paquet joined Alex Muller on the platform earlier this year.
“He told me only good things about it,” Paquet said in an interview. “I really like the idea of OnlyFans to create a really good environment to connect the fans and the athletes. I want to show a little bit behind the scenes.”
OnlyFans has made a very decided effort at recruiting athletes to join the platform. That’s why Muller ultimately decided to join and accept their sponsorship, saying: “OnlyFans is trying to change their image. It’s not only about erotic stuff. That’s why they sponsor me. They’re trying to take a lot of guys from sports, tennis, boxing, whatever.”
And it doesn’t hurt that many of the athletes joining the platform could use the extra cash that comes from their fans and sponsorships.
“It’s going to help a lot,” said Paquet, 30. “It’s an inclusive platform and, more and more, there are sports fans on the platform. Of course, for me, it’s a huge opportunity also to generate a little bit of salary to help with my career, so it’s really nice.”
