AMERICAN HUSTLE

The author Colson Whitehead has proven himself unhindered by genre restrictions: He’s written autobiographical fiction (Sag Harbor), a historical novel (John Henry Days), and even a literary take on zombie horror (Zone One). In The Noble Hustle, Whitehead chronicles his foray into professional gambling, which began when Grantland gave him $10,000 and asked him to take on the World Series of Poker. The book, which takes the reader from practice runs in grubby Atlantic City to the main event in glitzy Vegas, is a sharp and hilarious look at what motivates us in our pleasure-seeking.
