Bedridden — stealing some moves.

Jack Riley: I feel as if I have missed countless shows that had the opportunity to be formative experiences. When I was young, I got detained sneaking into a Radiohead concert. Now, whether it be due to finances or the general work/life balance, the bands come and go in a blink of an eye. That’s one great part about being a musician and having the opportunity to play shows and digest music consistently.

Bedridden was just at SXSW and the first and one of the last sets that we caught was that of our friends and label mates, Her New Knife. In total, we watched them play five times, whether it be sharing a bill with them or riding an electric scooter a mile to be there. I had not seen them play since they recently released new material and every time, it inspired me differently. Packing out small clubs of beer-drinking indie rockers, they played hard, fast, and conjured up these new avant-garde guitar screeches beyond what you hear on their recordings. It made us feel passionate about the current state of the scene. Sorry, Edgar and Ben, I was paying attention, and I’m stealing some of those guitar moves! ❖

Bedridden’s debut album Moths Strapped to Each Other’s Backs is out now.
