Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and King of the late-night airwaves? Inspired by Orson Welles’s 1938 broadcast of War of the Worlds, which incited mass panic in many listeners, Radio Macbeth is SITI director Anne Bogart and Darron L. West’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Scottish tragedy as a radio play that spurts blood all over AM and FM stations. Late at night, in a deserted theater, amid flickering candlelight, actors gather to rehearse a radio version of Macbeth. But before they’ve uttered even a handful of iambs, they begin to suspect that their rehearsal may have attracted uninvited spectators—supernatural ones. So don’t touch that dial—it could get dangerous. On select evenings, SITI’s own version of War of the Worlds follows.
Mondays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Oct. 5. Continues through Oct. 16, 2010
