Croissanteria and Table Verte Open in East Village

by

Over the weekend, the East Village got a heaping pile of Parisian flair. Two new French spots opened for business near Tompkins Square Park.

Croissanteria; 68 Avenue A
Croissanteria serves up (you guessed it) a variety of croissants in flavors including cinnamon-raisin, apricot, hazelnut, and chocolate. You can also order croissant sandwiches with ham and melted Gruyere cheese or prosciutto, mozzarella, and basil. Even if you’re not jonesing for the French classic, the sticky buns and fresh baked baguettes are hard to pass up.

Table Verte ; 127 E. 7th Street
The owners of Taureau opened a French bistro with a twist: a vegetarian BYOB that is a also a “certified first-date safe zone.” The preview menu boasts classics like French onion soup, mushroom ragout, and a carrot vichy. At the moment, they have no reservations, no phone number, and no credit card machine. But who needs all that when you can pretend like you’re in Paris?
