Dance Heginbotham’s Dark Theater

by

Former Mark Morris dancer John Heginbotham’s first evening-long work was inspired by surrealist choreographer Francis Picabia’s 1924 absurdist ballet Relâche. Heginbotham has also choreographed director René Clair’s footage of a leaping ballerina and a rooftop chess match, screened as part of Picabia’s Dadaist extravaganza, for his own very promising reprise, which also features piano music by Eric Satie, including “Vexations” and “Dessicated Embryos,” performed by Yegor Shevtsov.
