“Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises/Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not,” says the wild islander Caliban in Shakespeare’s The Tempest. And in this Classic Stage Company production, the island should be full of delightful sounds indeed when Tony winner Mandy Patinkin lends his vocal abilities to the role of Prospero, the sorcerer, and the Duke of Milan who has been exiled to the island with his lovely daughter, Miranda. CSC artistic director Brian Kulick stages the Bard’s final play as the first production of CSC’s 40th-anniversary season. Previews begin tonight, opens September 18. Patinkin fans should also note that tickets are on sale for his one-night-only CSC benefit concert on May 19 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, 212-677-4210, ext. 40
