Farmhouse Fest, Alewife, Queens, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.

Head out to Long Island City for a chance to taste highlights of the simple life. This showcase of farmhouse-style beers–typically spicy and aromatic–from breweries like Pretty Things, Ommegang, and Dogfish Head will also feature farmhouse-style wines and a selection of cheeses, breads, and meats. Reservations for a seat at the family table start at $53.74.

Main Trends in Chocolate with Chloe Doutre-Rousse, Institute of Culinary Education, 50 West 23rd Street, Thursday, 1 p.m.

Join chocolate expert Chloe Doutre-Rousse for a rare U.S. appearance as she discusses current and emerging trends in chocolate production, questions about proper labeling practices, and the differences between fine chocolate and mass marketed options. Beefless Burgers, Whole Foods, 95 East Houston, Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

Expand your horizons beyond the beef burger or learn how to feed your vegetarian friends at your next backyard grilling session. Chef Ori Cosentino leads a demonstration on how to create amazing alternatives to the red meat staple using ingredients like quinoa or chickpeas and walnuts. He’ll also talk toppings, like spicy cucumber relish, which might help you out when squeezing out a ribbon of Heinz isn’t going to do the trick. Tickets are $50.
