Former Pro Athletes Turn to OnlyFans

While OnlyFans is becoming a home to active professional athletes, it’s also where former professional athletes are turning to after they hang up their uniforms.

Mikayla Demaiter is the former goalie for the Bluewater Hawks of Canada’s Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Junior League. The Ontario native played 20 games before being forced to turn in her skates due to a career-ending injury.

In a retirement statement, she said: “Dear Hockey, it is time to say goodbye. It is time to turn the page and move to the next chapter of my life, for the time you will not be my number one focus. I want to thank you for all the places we’ve gone together. I also want to thank you for all the friends you have made me. My family sends their best as well. I know they will definitely miss seeing us together. I am excited for the future because everything you have taught me will allow me to succeed.”

Since retiring, she’s amassed a large social media following, including over 3.2 million Instagram followers, plus similar followings on YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat and OnlyFans — all of which leads to her making thousands of dollars a month.

She’s not the only former athlete making more money on social media and OnlyFans than her career.

Former Los Angeles Sparks star Liz Cambage recently shared that made more in one month on OnlyFans than she did in her entire 6-year career in the WNBA. The four-time All-Star ended her career in the WNBA in 2022. When speaking about her retirement and decision to join OnlyFans, she said: “Basketball was a part of me, but it wasn’t all of me.”

That’s why she’s so excited about the platform. She plans to post fashion-forward, artistic, and suggestive content that reflected her creativity — while also continuing her basketball career in Israel. Her financial success on the platform compared to the low pay she received in the WNBA.

Although she earned $221,450 in her highest-paying season, that amount is jaw droppingly low compared to what a player of a similar level in the NBA would’ve been paid. It’s no wonder that Cambage chose to join OnlyFans, as she now earns reportedly $1.5 million annually through the platform as she continues to build her personal brand.

Elise Christie is also using the platform after retiring from her sport as a short track speed skater. After appearing in three Winter Olympics for Great Britain, she left the sport in 2021 and turned to OnlyFans where she began sharing racy content with her subscribers — including some content in her Team Great Britain gear.

She shared a photo of herself on X (formerly known as Twitter) in her full Olympic gear with the caption: “Is it tight enough?”

The post, which has since been removed, went viral with many questioning the decision to use her uniform to promote her OnlyFans account. But despite what others may have thought, Christie is content with her decision.

Just like Cambage and Demaiter are.
