From Paris to NYCxDESIGN, Wang’s recent exhibition practice shows how game UI, interface-driven visual systems, and human-centered design can become a language for contemporary digital art.
As digital images become faster, sharper, and increasingly automated, the harder question is no longer whether technology can produce spectacle. It is whether a digital artwork can still carry memory, emotion, and a sense of human presence. For Zhiyong Wang, a digital artist, senior game UI/UX designer, and 2D art director, that question has become the center of a practice that moves between contemporary art, interactive entertainment, and inclusive design.
Wang’s recent exhibitions place him in a growing field of artists who treat the interface not as a neutral frame, but as a cultural object. At Art Shopping Paris 2026, where he was listed as a digital artist represented by XINSILU Gallery, Wang presented Redrawing Time, a digital artwork that revisits an earlier visual idea after more than a decade. The work uses digital painting, layered textures, surreal biological imagery, fluorescent color, and a psychedelic composition to make time feel unstable, almost biological. Rather than using digital tools to freeze an image into perfection, Redrawing Time suggests that images can return, mutate, and carry traces of their earlier selves.

That concern with memory and reconstruction also appears in Wang’s participation in Fractured Horizons: Imaging After Images, presented as part of NYCxDESIGN 2026 and documented through the VSDesign online exhibition. The exhibition brought together artists and designers examining how images, AI visualization, interfaces, simulations, and hybrid media are reshaping the way space and digital worlds are imagined. Wang’s included work, Apocalypse, is a digital UI/UX system for a gothic role-playing game. Its obsidian black surfaces, crimson accents, metallic textures, cathedral-like geometry, and skeletal forms transform the grammar of buttons, frames, and transitions into atmosphere. The result is not simply a game interface; it is a world-building image system.

This is where Wang’s background in game UI/UX becomes essential to his digital art. In many exhibitions, digital media is judged by the novelty of its software or the scale of its display. Wang’s work asks a more specific question: how does a visual system teach a viewer where to look, what to feel, and how to move through a constructed world? His interfaces are not decorative overlays. They behave like architecture, directing attention while also carrying mood, narrative pressure, and symbolic weight.
His conceptual educational game Nori extends that thinking into a different emotional register. Designed entirely by Wang on the visual side, Nori is an empathy-driven adaptive learning game that connects education with care. Instead of relying on scores, pressure, or punishment, it invites children to explore open biomes, help animals through math, spelling, and science challenges, and receive real nature facts as meaningful rewards. Powered by AI-supported personalization, the concept adapts difficulty, hints, audio support, font settings, and navigation to children’s learning needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, and color-vision differences. Its connected plush companion extends personalized learning beyond the screen.
The project’s recognition has been unusually broad for a conceptual educational game. Nori received a London Design Awards Gold Winner honor, a MUSE Design Awards Gold Winner honor, a NY Digital Awards Silver Winner honor, and a Vega Digital Awards Gold Winner honor. These awards point to the project’s hybrid nature: it is a learning system, a visual design project, an inclusive interface proposal, and a digital world shaped around compassion. Wang’s broader design record also includes Red Dot recognition for the L3 Smart Electric Suitcase, a smart mobility product that shows his interest in human-centered technology beyond the screen.
The bridge between Nori and Wang’s exhibited digital art is not merely technical. Both are concerned with how people enter systems. In Redrawing Time, the viewer encounters an image that feels layered with past and future versions of itself. In Apocalypse, interface elements become a narrative environment. In Nori, the visual world is designed to reduce pressure and make learning feel emotionally safe. Across these works, Wang treats digital art as a form of encounter: a space where visual decisions can change how people interpret complexity.

That approach has also shaped the way Wang’s practice has been discussed publicly. A TechBullion profile examined his work in scalable game UI/UX systems for modern interactive entertainment, while a MUSE.World interview focused on the empathy behind Nori. A later Digital Journal article positioned his career across commercial games, adaptive learning, and digital art. Taken together, the coverage presents Wang less as a designer confined to one industry than as a practitioner using digital systems to make complex experiences more legible and emotionally responsive.
His professional affiliation with IXDC, the International Experience Design Committee, further situates that practice within a larger experience design community. IXDC’s focus on user experience, interaction design, service design, product innovation, and digital design aligns with Wang’s recurring concern: technology becomes meaningful only when its systems can be felt, understood, and navigated by real people.
In a digital culture often driven by frictionless consumption, Wang’s work argues for a slower and more attentive form of image-making. His digital art does not ask viewers merely to admire a finished surface. It asks them to notice how images remember, how interfaces direct feeling, and how technology can hold care inside its structure.
