OnlyFans Athletics Sponsorship Is A Win-Win
While the name OnlyFans usually gets people thinking of pornstars and people from your hometown selling X-rated content, there’s much more to the platform.
And soon, there will be content from professional beach volleyball player Hagen Smith, according to his recent Instagram post where he explained:
“I’m stoked to announce that I am now an official OnlyFans athlete 🏐! My page will give you exclusive behind-the-scenes access to my life as a professional beach volleyball player, highlighting the dedication, hard work, and passion that drive me both on and off the court as well as some other fun off court activities 😉 🏄♂️ 🏋️♀️ 🏕️🧑🚀”
While there is much speculation about exactly what those off-court activities may be, Smith may be joining the likes of other athletes who have joined the platform for a new revenue stream without taking anything off (though, if you’re not familiar with beach volleyball, you should know that bikinis and hoochie daddy shorts are pretty standard).
British swimmer Jack Laugher joined the platform leading up to the Paris Olympics in 2024 as a way to make ends meet while training for the legendary Olympic games. He took home bronze, thanks in part to his OnlyFans supporters.
When asked about his participation in the platform, he said, “For me, it’s been an absolute lifeline.”
And he’s not the only Olympian using the platform to fund their gold medal runs.
Other past Olympians on the platform include New Zealand rower Robbie Manson, Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman, and divers Timo Barthel and Diego Belleza Isaias — most of whom turned to OnlyFans when other funding came up short (or never materialized to begin with).
Of course, not all these creators keep things PG.
Australian diver Matthew Mitcham turned to OnlyFans when he was unable to secure any traditional sponsorships — but instead of just posting behind the scenes content like Smith plans to, Mitcham took it all off for semi-frontal nudes.
“That body is an amazing commodity that people want to pay to see. It’s a privilege to see a body that has six hours of work every day, six days a week put into it to make it Adonis-like,” said Mitcham. And pay people did, as he reportedly earned triple the amount he’d previously received as a top athlete.
Whether they’re going full-frontal like Mitcham or keeping things safe for work, like Laugher, these male athletes are showing just how varied OnlyFans creators can be. They aren’t all gorgeous blonde twenty-somethings doing massive gangbang stunts for views. They’re showing their athletic bodies in ways that make sense for them and their audience.
Because at the end of the day, that’s why these athletes are creating content when they might prefer to focus on their sports. They know that if they create the right content for the audience that is looking for it, they’ll be able to support themselves in ways they never have before.
These guys may just be the start of a new wave of fundraising for anyone whose dreams don’t play well with a 9-5 schedule — and a reminder that women like to look at hot guys, too.
