On Sunday February 17, I’ll be singing disco hits at 54 Below–the jazzily renovated lower level of the old Studio 54–and it makes perfect sense.
I used to go to the actual club in the 1970s. And in the 1980s, I fronted a band. And I’ve written new words to “I Will Survive” to make it a satirical song about eating pizza.
Today’s Daily News has a scintillating item about this mirror-balled happening, written by Brian Niemietz.
The live band playing with me is Elektrik Company, my backups are Snooky and Tish (who will do a few numbers of their own as well), and Tony nominee Orfeh is dropping by for a very hot tune.
And when you hear me sing “Macho Man,” well, irony will become danceable again.
