Strike the ’CHORDS

by

Flight of the Conchords, the HBO series, wouldn’t be nearly as funny if it weren’t for the supporting cast. They’re hilarious in their own right, and now are taking center stage as a collective to support a worthy cause: rebuilding the Gulf Coast. So feel good about where your cash is going as you watch FOTC’s lone, crazed fan, Mel (Kristen Schaal); the “third Conchord,” Todd (Todd Barry); the Conchord landlord, Eugene (Eugene Mirman); and Michael Showalter, who isn’t an FOTC cast member but is funny nonetheless. Schaal, who lists New Kid Joey McIntyre and Mary Lou Retton as her inspirations, can also be seen on MTV’s Human Giant; Barry has played the number seven on Sesame Street, and can be seen as the “ordinary guy” in reruns of Sex and the City; Mirman mostly tours with the comedy troupe Stella; while Showalter does anything and everything—including a kick-ass impersonation of Mirman.
