This Week in Food: Charleston Beer Dinner, the Art of Champagne, Pig and Khao Chinese New Year

Charleston Beer Dinner, Lupulo, 835 Sixth Avenue, Monday, 7 p.m.

Charleston chef Mike Lata of FIG is bringing a taste of low-country fare to George Mendes’s Portuguese beer hall. The chefs are offering a four-course, family-style menu ($115 per person) complete with beer pairings from Westbrook Brewing Co. Lupulo’s cicerone will be on hand to talk guests through each pairing. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the restaurant.

The Art of Champagne, Le Skyroom at FIAF, 22 East 60th Street, Monday, 7 p.m.

Find out why France continues to produce high quality sparkling wines, year in and year out, at this tasting session led by wine merchant Millesima. Wine professionals will be popping personal favorites and offering tips on how to choose the perfect wine for any occasion. Light bites will also be provided. Tickets are $115 for the general public and can be secured here.

Notorious P.I.G. Dinner, Pig and Khao, 68 Clinton Street, Wednesday, 6 p.m.

Leah Cohen and Joshua Walker of Charleston’s Xiao Bao Biscuit are teaming up for a special Chinese New Year celebration. Dishes include chili prawns, Sichuan-style pork dumplings, mapo spaghetti, and caramel pork belly. Seatings take place on the hour from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and can be reserved here.

Fifth Annual 90X Arts Festival, Flamboyan Theater at The Clemente Soto Velez, 107 Suffolk Street, Wednesday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Catering company Great Performances is showcasing the talents of its employees with two nights of food, cabaret performances, and art.  Chefs will prepare a selection of their favorite dishes such as coriander-crusted beef, savory pies, and pasteles. Performances will take place throughout the theater, making the audience a live part of the show. Tickets — $25 per person — include one drink and can be secured here.

The Brooklyn Cocktail: A History, Brooklyn Historical Society,128 Pierrepont St, Brooklyn, Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

Join historic gastronomist Sarah Lohman and cocktail historian David Wondrich as they dive into the legends behind Brooklyn’s love affair with cocktails. Joining them are representatives from the borough’s top cocktail lairs including Clover Club, Fort Defiance, and Tooker Alley. Tickets are $12 for the general public and include cocktail tastings. Guests can register for an online waitlist and will be notified if seats become available Seating is on a first come, first served basis, and there will also be a standby line on the night of the event.
