Broken English Is Coming to Bergen Street

by

Cobble Hill will soon have another new restaurant on its plate when Broken English opens at 68 Bergen Street in a few weeks.

According to the owner, who does not wish to be identified at this time, the restaurant — which sits between Smith Street and Boerum Place — will have 70 seats, as well as a bar and sidewalk cafe, and will eventually serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The owner originally hails from Salerno, a small city in Italy’s Campania region, and was formerly the general manager of a big restaurant. He’s lived in the neighborhood for nine years. He says that he just got the restaurant’s liquor license last Friday, and hopes to open “in two or three weeks.” He declined to say who the chef is, but allowed that “he’s a friend of mine.”

And what kind of Italian cuisine will Broken English serve? “Just Italian,” he says. “Nothing specific. But authentic Italian food for sure. We’re all Italians here.”
